1. Christmas Lights and Decorations

  • A lot of the time leads for lights are run out through windows giving easy access to your property.
  • Ensure your light plugs, extension cords and power boards are protected from the weather.
  • Make sure your tree lights are in good condition and your tree, if it is real, is well watered as a dry tree can ignite in seconds

2. Holiday Crime

  • Theft rises over the holiday period so ensure you protect yourself and your property. Secure all your property and belongings also don't leave valuable items visible

3. Deliveries and Package Disposal

  • If you are having items delivered, ensure they are not left somewhere visible
  • When throwing out packaging be mindful that putting the box out the front of your property for your new big TV is just letting thieves know what is inside to steal. So, cut up your boxes or take them straight to the tip.

4. Going away?

  • Make sure you inform a trusted neighbour and your real estate agent if you are renting this way people can keep an eye on the property for you and if something happens they know where you are
  • Don't post the fact you are going away on Social Media, as potential thieves will now know your place will be empty. Wait until you are home to post about your holiday

5. Drive Safe

  • Remember during this period there are a lot of people on the road and the risk of driving increases so don't drink and drive, take a break every two hours and don't drive tired. Your family and friends will understand if you are a little late as it is better late than not at all.

6. Smoke Alarms and Switches

  • Ensure you check all Smoke Alarms and Safety Switches by pressing the test button. Remember you should replace your smoke alarm batteries at least every 12 months.

7. Enjoy the Season

  • Whether you have time off work or not enjoy the time that you get to spend with family and friends and stay safe.
